This book is easy, fun and interesting to read. It provides a basic overview of how blockchain technologies, in general, work, and how they were born, with the basic ideas behind them. Then it focuses on economic and social aspects of these technologies, making the difference between blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies: in fact, it shows that these two terms don't have to be coupled. It depicts public blockchain technologies as an alternative investment, as distributed application platforms or as actual currencies. Then it shows many use cases for private blockchain technologies, showing how they can improve security and efficiency for governments, banks and big companies. I really liked, for example, the discussions about Xbox game royalties and Facebook's Libra. At the end of this book you will be able to talk about blockchain technologies, focusing on many different aspects: (a little) technical, (a lot) social and economic, (something) about policies.

The book provides an overview of the current situation of crypto technology and its current trends. I've liked the fact that the authors tried to analyze the situation in a way as objective as possible., without being too enthusiastic or negative.
The content is enjoyable and easy to understand, without going into deep technical details.

Si parla molto di blockchain private (permissioned)

Interessante testo che affronta l'evoluzione della tecnologia alla base di Bitcoin (DLT/Blockchain) e analizza anche i progetti che lo hanno seguito (altocoin).

Sono rimasto inizialmente un po' sorpreso rispetto allo spazio dedicato alla tematica public/private blockchain. Alla fine credo sia sensato affrontare in maniera approfondita questo tema poichè, anche se nella fase attuale (iniziale... maggio 2021) l'hype è tutto sulle blockchain pubbliche, non è da escludere che quelle "private" (permissioned) avranno un ruolo importante.

Non passa inosservato che i tre autori lavorino per tre grandi big player del settore tech (Microsoft, Facebook e Google), anche perchè nel testo si descrivono i progetti che stanno sviluppando queste aziende (forse, a mio modesto parere, in maniera un po' eccessiva).
Infine, la conclusione degli autori, proprio per la posizione che ricoprono, mi lascia qualche dubbio… è in effetti una nota un po' fuori dal coro rispetto alla molta altra documentazione che ho letto. Non significa che sia sbagliata, però mi ha fatto riflettere.

La conclusione la riporto qui sotto, ma ti avviso prima… non è un romanzo, quindi non lo considero uno SPOILER, ad ogni modo potresti non volerlo sapere quindi decidi tu se leggere quanto segue.

Gli autori concludono sostenendo che le blockchain private (come quelle che appunto stanno sviluppando Microsoft e Facebook) potrebbero essere il vero futuro di questa tecnologia.
Attualmente, il progetto di Microsoft non sembra avere un grande seguito… e quello di Facebook sta incontrando qualche problema (anche se è ancora in sviluppo e con gli oltre 2 miliardi di utenti di Facebook potrebbe davvero avere degli impatti significativi).
A onor del vero, ho avuto modo di riflettere ulteriormente sul ruolo che le blockchain private potrebbero avere e, ribadisco, la conclusione degli autori potrebbe anche essere corretta (chi lo sa).
Condivido questo dubbio solo perchè potrebbe sorgere anche in altri (potenziali) lettori e potrebbe essere loro utile... o potrebbe generare un confronto

Il libro è scritto con molta chiarezza a partire dagli aspetti basici e fondamentali dell'architettura di una blockchain. Inoltre affronta con obiettività i punti di forza e le debolezze le possibili applicazioni (prima tra tutte bitcoin) legate a questa relativamente nuova tecnologia. utili anche le appendici e il piccolo glossario alla fine del libro.

"Bubble or revolution?" is one of the best books I have ever read on blockchain and cryptocurrencies. It is well written and covers the basics of these technologies in a smart and concise way. Must-read for those who want to understand the strengths and weaknesses of "the most important invention since the internet".

The book is a very well written and is perfect for someone who is interested in the crypto world and wants to understand a bit more about it. The authors manage to present in a very clear manner the concepts without overlooking the technical side.
What’s more, they answer the basic question of the book in a non ideological way.
Highly recommended!

Libro perfetto che descrive in maniera chiara come funziona la tecnologia che prenderà piede nei prossimi 10 anni e che prima o poi tutti dovremmo abituarci a far entrare nelle nostre vite

It is a must-have if interested in the cryptocurrency and blockchain world, as it explains the information in interesting terms but with simple and easy narrative which leads to an enjoyable read. Overall, the narrative of the book is neutral and describes both the argument and counterargument.

After hearing all the buzzwords floating around with Blockchain, Web3, Crypto. I’ve been looking for an introductory book that was impartial and described the technology from all angles. This book did exactly that for me and now I have more topics that I can delve deeper into. Great Work!
